Week 1: August 29-September 1, 2022
This week we will cover the following:
- Review of the syllabus
- Distribute work folders
- Getting to know the class activities
- Review expectations for class and skills of social studies
- Review technology that will be used including apps that enable students to edit documents, as well as an overview of Canvas
- Students will take a pre-test to determine their knowledge of the American Civil War
- Students will read a source detailing the Civil War and will complete a series of crossword puzzles as a way to identify key figures, events, and vocabulary
Week 2: September 6-September 9, 2022
This week we will cover the following:
- A discussion of border states and the ethical dilemmas of the Civil War
- A review of key battles, with particular focus on turning points, such as Vicksburg & Gettysburg
Week 3: September 12-16, 2022
This week we will cover the following:
- Students will evaluate the difference between primary and secondary sources
- Students will learn effective strategies for studying and annotating written documents
- Lastly, I will be introducing our first major unit of study: The Reconstruction Era & electoral college maps
