    Week 1: August 29-September 1, 2022

    This week we will cover the following:

    • Review of the syllabus
    • Distribute work folders
    • Getting to know the class activities
    • Review expectations for class and skills of social studies
    • Review technology that will be used including apps that enable students to edit documents, as well as an overview of Canvas
    • Students will take a pre-test to determine their knowledge of the American Civil War
    • Students will read a source detailing the Civil War and will complete a series of crossword puzzles as a way to identify key figures, events, and vocabulary

     

    Week 2: September 6-September 9, 2022

    This week we will cover the following:

    • A discussion of border states and the ethical dilemmas of the Civil War
    • A review of key battles, with particular focus on turning points, such as Vicksburg & Gettysburg

     

    Week 3: September 12-16, 2022

    This week we will cover the following:

    • Students will evaluate the difference between primary and secondary sources
    • Students will learn effective strategies for studying and annotating written documents
    • Lastly, I will be introducing our first major unit of study: The Reconstruction Era & electoral college maps
