Week 1: August 29-September 1, 2022
This week we will cover the following:
- Review of the syllabus
- Distribute work folders
- Getting to know the class activities
- Review expectations for class and skills of social studies
- Review technology that will be used including apps that enable students to edit documents, as well as an overview of Canvas
- This week we will begin our first unit: focusing on America's founding documents. We will explore the Enlightenment Era and how that shaped our founding fathers' views on government. We will begin by studying the Declaration of Independence and later in this unit will focus on the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Week 2: September 6-9, 2022
This week we will cover the following:
- Different forms of government throughout the world and in different historical eras with a focus on how other governments influenced the United States
- Students will continue to learn about the Declaration of Independence
- Students will beginning to learn about how the government responded to the 9/11 attacks in 2001
Week 3: September 12-16, 2022
This week we will cover the following:
- Students will discuss the role of the Monarch in the United Kingdom and the impact of Queen Elizabeth's death
- Students will learn about Congress' reaction to the Patriot Act
- Students will learn about the Articles of Confederation and our nations first form of government
- Students will evaluate the six principles of American Democracy as described by the US Constitution
